CFCNs providing routine foot care must collect payment from the patient if health insurance doesn’t provide coverage. Any foot care that requires a provider (nurse practitioner, physician associate, medical doctor, doctor of osteopathy, doctor of podiatric medicine) isn’t considered routine.

If you only want to practice in your state, you can apply through your state board of nursing. If you want to practice in multiple states, apply for a multistate license from the Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) , which includes 40 member states. An advanced degree or certification will qualify you for more positions.
