Find A Preceptor Stress-Free

As a nurse practitioner (NP) student, finding a preceptor is one of the most stressful parts of the journey. Feeling frustrated trying to navigate outdated preceptor lists, calling clinic after clinic only to hear “we’re full” or no response at all.

The complex paperwork and logistics involved once you do find a site can also feel totally overwhelming on top of working, going to school, and your other responsibilities.

However, it doesn’t have to be this way!

At NPHub, we understand the gut-wrenching feeling of considering sitting out a semester and delaying all your plans because you couldn’t find a preceptor.

That’s why we made it our mission to simplify and streamline the clinical placement process so you can focus on gaining hands-on experience, not jumping through administrative obstacles.

In this blog post, we’ll walk you through the 6 steps we use to nail clinical placement every single time and make finding a preceptor completely stress-free. Connecting students with preceptors and handling all the heavy lifting around paperwork.

Step 1: Find and Request a Preceptor Match

First, browse our interactive map and find the best preceptor for you by filtering based on

  • Location.
  • Specialty
  • Availability.

Just like you would an Airbnb.

Now, if you feel overwhelmed or can’t seem to find what you’re looking for, you can always get personalized recommendations from our matching specialist tailored to your needs – you just need to start a chat on our website.

Once you’ve submitted your request and paid the refundable deposit, your chosen preceptor will review it within 2-3 business days and give you a response.

At the same time, you’ll get a student coordinator who will support you all the way until you finish your rotation.

Note: You can usually find a preceptor starting at $12.75, but it may vary depending on your state and the specialty you’re looking for

Step 2: We Handle All Paperwork

After accepting, your matched preceptor and student coordinator will complete any required university paperwork—usually within 5 business days, so you don’t need to wonder about status or track down documents!

Step 3: Download The Paperwork & Settle Your Balance

Once your preceptor and student coordinator complete all the documentation, we’ll send you a notification so you can download all the documents and settle your remaining balance.

You’ll also receive your preceptor’s resume, license information, and board certification with your paperwork.

Step 4: Submit Documents for Uni Approval

With all the documentation in your hands, you can go to your University and submit your clinicals. Next, you’ll have to wait for their instructions, if your preceptor is approved or not.

Most likely, it’ll be approved! But don’t worry if your overseeing physician is not approved, we’re here to help troubleshoot or find other options that will fit what you need!

Note: If your preceptor is rejected, we’ll always try to find more options. However, if you prefer to opt-out, you can totally do it, but be aware of our refund policies here.

Step 5: Coordinate The Logistics

Once approved, you can start coordinating all the logistics of your first day.

But first, you need to upload into the platform that you got the approval from your school. Here’s how you can do it:

  1. Log into your Rotation Request Dashboard.
  2. Click on the “My School Has Approved” button.

This lets everyone know that you’re ready for scheduling.

Your NPHub Student Coordinator will then provide you with the contact information of your preceptor/site so that you can arrange your schedule directly with them.

Note: If the start date you decide on with your preceptor is different from the one you originally submitted, please let your Student Coordinator know! That way, we can check in once you’ve started to make sure everything is going well

Step 6: Start Your Clinical Rotation

Now, immerse yourself in your clinical experience, and focus on gaining the experience needed to become an NP.

We’ll have your back throughout this process to ensure it’s smooth. Our goal is to give you the ultimate peace of mind instead of more headaches and make finding a preceptor stress-free.

If you enjoyed your preceptor and clinical rotation, you can leave them a review on your Request Dashboard once your rotation has ended.

When you’re ready to book your next clinicals, don’t forget to let your NPHub Student Coordinator know so that they can suggest options that work best for you and your university requirements!
