2023 was another big year for The School of Nursing. We were once again named among the top nursing schools in the country and world, we launched the new Institute for Policy Solutions at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing, and much more. Let’s look back at some of this year’s highlights from the On The Pulse Blog and Podcast:

Seize the Day: Health Policy for All

In 2023, the School of Nursing welcomed its inaugural cohort of Policy Honors Scholars. The program is for students striving to gain experience and foundational skills in policy analysis and advocacy to address critical health challenges. 

Six R01 Research Projects Funded at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing 

Dr. Junxin Li, Dr. Laura Samuel, Dr. Deborah Gross, Dr. Ariana Chao, Dr. Bonnie Swenor, and Dr. Kali Thomas were all awarded R01 grants (Research Project grants) from the National Institutes of Health. This is an awesome achievement as only about 10 percent of R01 grants receive funding.  

Team Captain

Former U.S. Army captain and current MSN (Entry into Nursing) student, Ayla Chase, shares her keys to leadership. Chase was among the first group of women ever to train alongside men at U.S. Army Infantry School, and is a founder of the Johns Hopkins adventure medicine team.

Preventing Child Abuse After Parental Separation

Through her research, School of Nursing PhD Candidate, Katie Spearman is seeking to improve risk assessment and intervention for children exposed to domestic violence. And on the legal side, help judges and attorneys use the power of the bench to make better decisions for kids.

Faculty Spotlight: Dr. Hailey Miller

Dr. Hailey Miller is the youngest PhD grad to ever come from the School of Nursing, and is now here teaching as faculty. Dr. Miller’s story shows just how passionate our students and faculty are about achieving their goals.

Johns Hopkins School of Nursing Earns Top Rankings

The Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing is ranked the top Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program in the country, and the No. 2 ranked nursing master’s program. This is the second year in a row that the DNP program received the top ranking, and the master’s program continues to be among the top programs in the country.
