Western Governors U to open 18,000 square-foot nursing simulation lab

Western Governors University, an accredited, online, non-profit school based out of Millcreek, Utah, said in a May 22 press release that it will open an 18,000-square-foot nursing prelicensure simulation lab in Kansas City, Mo., in late 2023.

The lab will house 17 patient beds in five simulation rooms, four patient exam rooms, two skills labs, five debriefing rooms, and a single, large multipurpose room.

Students enrolled in the university's undergraduate nursing program who are seeking bachelor of science in nursing degrees will be the primary group to use the new facility.

The simulation lab is part of the university's goal to expand its programming to accommodate for the training and graduation of more than 1,000 new nurses in Missouri — where it is adding the in-person facility, by 2026 — according to the release.

On top of that, the university hopes to graduate an additional 4,800 workforce-ready nurses from its program by 2027, according to information shared with Becker's via email. The university stated that currently 20,000 nursing students are enrolled in its Leavitt School of Health.

The school's five-year student pass rate for the NCLEX sits at 90.82 percent.
